Albion have been told Marc Cucurella would be a perfect fit – if they seize the moment.

The Getafe wideman is attracting interest in the Spanish league and in Italy while he is away with the national under-23s at the Olympics.

But the Seagulls are thought to be well-placed to bring him to England should they come up with the release fee of about £15 million.

Andrea Orlandi, the Barcelona-based former Albion star, has followed Cucurella’s career closely and believes a move to the Amex would be just right for him and the club.

Orlandi told The Argus: “He would perfectly suit the Albion system.

“A wing-back position is perfect for him.

“A few clubs have been interested. Big clubs in Spain as well, but obviously the release clause is quite high and there is no money in Spain at the moment.

“It’s a good opportunity for the Albion if they sign him.

“If Brighton sign him, he will be a very good addition to the team.

“They need a specialist in that wing-back position.”

Cucurella came through the youth ranks at Barcelona.

But Orlandi said: “He is not particularly a Barcelona type of player.

“He has got a good left foot, a good cross on him and a decent strike.

“But his main attributes are speed and endurance.

“He is one of the quickest players in LaLiga.

“He runs for 90 minutes non-stop and he runs at full pace.

“At Eibar and Getafe he had been playing as left-winger in a 4-4-2 system, quite rigid in both teams, and he was very positive going forward.

“But especially at Getafe he was asked to do a lot off the ball because they never played a possession-based game.

“He helped his full-back, made him a better player, so he works a lot on the defensive side.”

Cucurella remained on the bench as Spain opened their Olympic campaign by drawing 0-0 with Egypt yesterday.

Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister was taken off late on as his Argentina side suffered a desperately disappointing 2-0 defeat by Australia.

Tudor Baluta went on as a 69th-minute substitute to help Romania close out a 1-0 win over Honduras.
