Albion are poised for their first test of pre-season.

But they are unlikely to face the full force of Rangers at Ibrox.

The Seagulls visit the Scottish champions today for the first of three friendlies (5.30pm).

It is a busy weekend for the host club and boss Steven Gerrard is expected to field his full-strength side against Real Madrid tomorrow.

That is almost certain to include popular former Seagulls centre-back Connor Goldson and, most likely, his sidekick Leon Balogun.

Filip Helander and Jack Simpson are thought more likely to play in defence against the Seagulls than Goldson and Balogun.

But Graham Potter’s side can still look forward to a good contest in Glasgow against those pushing for places.

Swiss striker Cedric Itten is likely to be the man who tests an Albion defence missing Ben White.

Several Albion stars are still on holiday or international duty.

Joel Veltman and Jakub Moder have only recently returned to training so it is unclear what part they will play.

Yves Bissouma appears to be on the trip north.

And Albion fans watching via online stream will be hoping to see wing-backs Tariq Lamptey and Solly March back in action after lengthy injury absences.

It could also be a first chance to impress for summer signing Enock Mwepu.

Gerrard has promised Albion a stern challenge.

He said: “We’re champions but it’s important we park that up now, re-set and go in with the same mentality which is full of hunger, ambition and desire to make sure this season is a success as well.”
