Brighton kick off their pre-season schedule against Rangers at Ibrox this evening (5:30pm).

Head coach Graham Potter’s main focus at the moment is looking at the current squad in training and matches, before working out which players to let go or loan out if he cannot guarantee them regular first-team football.

But some players will be hoping to grab their chance to impress over the few weeks and below are the five players who will be looking to catch the eye of Potter during pre-season:

Reda Khadra:

The winger made his Premier League debut for Albion coming off the bench in their defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad in January.

However, injury cut his campaign short meaning he was limited to just that one appearance.

Khadra is one of a few U23’s who has been training with the first team during pre-season.

But with Alireza Jahanbakhsh returning to Holland to join Feyenoord and Jose Izquierdo being released, the seagulls are quite short in the wide areas.

So, the 20-year-old will be hoping to impress in pre-season in a bid to work his way into Potter’s matchday squad in the upcoming campaign.

Leo Ostigard:

With Ben White looking destined to leave the club over the summer, there will be a chance for a centre back to work their way into Potter’s thinking.

Ostigard would be the most likely of the younger players to do so.

He has spent the last two seasons out on loan playing regularly in both Germany and England for FC St Pauli and Coventry, respectively.

In that time, he made 67 out of possible 80 appearances in the league.

Last season he was also a threat from set-pieces for Coventry scoring two goals and he also picked up two assists.

Shane Duffy:

The defender found himself going out on loan last season to Celtic in order to get regular game time.

But with his loan spell at the club he has supported since a young boy not going to plan, Duffy will be looking to rediscover his best form.

The 28-year-old was a key part of Albion’s first three seasons in the Premier League and a massive threat from set-pieces.

Duffy has plenty of top flight experience having played 91 times for the Seagulls in the Prem and scoring six goals in the process.

With White looking set to leave this summer, Duffy will be hoping he can rediscover his best form and work his way back into Potter’s plans for the upcoming season.

Jayson Molumby:

The young midfielder found his game time limited last season.

He made just five appearances in the first half of the season, before spending the second half of the campaign at Championship side Preston North End, where he made 16 appearances.

But with Albion having brought Jakub Moder in from his loan at Lech Poznan in January and also having signed Enock Mwepu over the summer, the Republic of Ireland international has fallen further down the pecking order.

However, the 21-year-old will be hoping to have a strong pre-season and work his way to Potter’s plan.

Aaron Connolly:

The striker also found game time hard to come by last season.

He made just 17 appearances last season, which was partly down to injuries that kept him out nine league games.

When Connolly was fit he found himself down the pecking order with fellow strikers Neal Maupay and Danny Welbeck ahead of him.

That meant just of his 17 appearances were starts.

In total, the Republic of Ireland international scored just two goals.

But he will now be hoping to find the back of the net in pre-season and build some momentum which he can carry into their upcoming Premier League campaign.
