Ben White has left Brighton to join fellow Premier League side Arsenal for a club-record transfer fee of £50 million.

The 23-year-old made the joint most appearances for Albion in the league (36) along with midfielder Yves Bissouma.

His performances in those 36 appearances saw him named as Albion’s player of the season and also saw White earn his first call-up for England as part of their provisional 33-man squad for the Euros.

He then won his first two caps in their wins over Austria and Romania.

But after missing out on Gareth Southgate’s final 26-man squad for the Euros, he was then called up days later to the squad to replace injured Liverpool full back Trent Alexander-Arnold.

However, White did not play a minute during the tournament as England were beaten by Italy on penalties in the final.

Head coach Graham Potter said, “Ben has come an incredible way in a short period of time, but we felt he had all the attributes to achieve what he has in the past few years.

“From the loan spells with Newport, Peterborough and Leeds through to his debut season in the Premier League with us last season, Ben has acquitted himself with great professional at every step of the process.

“We are incredibly proud of him and what he has achieved, and much credit must go to our academy, who have played such an important role in developing Ben from a younger age.

“On behalf of everyone at the Albion, I would like to thank him for his contribution to the club, he has been a pleasure to work with ever since I arrived here, and wish him well for the future.”
