Ben White’s agent has revealed Albion drove a hard bargain as they sold their star defender to Arsenal.

The Gunners paid £50 million for White, who has had just one season of Premier League football behind him.

A deal was reported to be complete by some sources some time ago – only for Albion sources, as reported by The Argus, to insist that was not yet the case.

The two clubs eventually reached agreement and White’s move was confirmed last Friday.

Agent Alex Levack told Sky Sports: “Maybe the biggest challenge really was agreeing a fee between the two clubs and a structure of the deal.

“Brighton didn’t really want to sell and were not willing to give a valuation of the player.

“With (Albion chairman) Tony Bloom being a poker player and a professional gambler, he’s a very hard man to read.

“But I think both clubs dealt with the utmost integrity and it was pretty smooth.

“And I think the outcome was best for all parties really.”
