Adam Webster has urged Albion to box clever in the new Premier League season.

That starts with himself – and his goals return.

The Seagulls are in the final stages of preparation for the 2021-22 campaign, which kicks off at Burnley on Saturday.

It is a case of 17th plays 16th from last season – but centre-back Webster wants to kick on from there.

He believes getting things right at either end of the pitch will be fundamental to that.

Webster said: “Everyone knows where we want to be.

“The margins from where we finished to where we want to finish are quite small.

“We are still probably disappointed that we didn’t end up finishing up there last season because I can think of several games we should have won.

“Had we won those games, we would have been looking at a really successful season for us.

“It’s just about trying to improve on last season, obviously, and trying to be more ruthless in both boxes.

“Then hopefully we can finish where we want to finish and aim for that top ten.”

Webster would love to have something to celebrate at Turf Moor, where he suffered an injury last term.

He headed against the bar in Saturday’s defeat by Getafe but aims to match the goalscoring feats of captain Lewis Dunk, whose strike earnt a 1-1 draw in East Lancs last season.

Webster said: “I was probably disappointed last season with my goal return.

“I think I hit the bar three or four times so that probably frustrated me even more, to be honest.

“I need to add more goals to my game this year and I need to learn off the skipper (Dunk) a bit more, don’t I?”

Webster, 26, recently signed a new five-year contract and is going into his third season as a Premier League player.

That makes him an increasingly senior contributor within the Seagulls’ set-up.

He said: “I see myself as an experienced figure in the team.

“I’d like to think I am coming into my best years.

“I know my body better than ever and that comes with age and experience.

“That certainly helps me every day and hopefully I have got my best years still to come.”
