We asked some long-serving Albion fans their thoughts on the game.

Of course we did. We do it every week.

But, just as importantly, what was it like to be back at a proper matchday at the Amex?

What were your thoughts on Albion’s performance?

Colin Beales: We bossed the first half, with Watford seemingly very uncompetitive all over the pitch. Second half was a tighter affair, but we probably should have increased our lead.

James Heasman: This was an excellent display, great movement, solid defending, outstanding individual performances. What’s not to like? However, we did look noticeably weaker when Maupay went off, and we need additional cover up front.

BRIGHTON ANALYSIS AS THEY ENJOY HOME WIN OVER WATFORD

Alan Brownings: A good all-round performance, scored the early goal and then kept our composure to get the second and effectively end the game before half time.

Who was your pick of the Albion players?

Colin Beales: I was so pleased for Duffy to get his goal but man of the match has to be Bissouma in charge of the midfield. That we have a talent like his playing for us... Wow!

James Heasman: So many good performances. Duffy, back to his commanding best, Dunk imperious, Bissouma usual high level performance, Solly March and Alexis Mac Allister outstanding, but for me Adam Webster gave as good a performance as I’ve seen for a long time and was Lawrenson-esque when he strode forward with the ball.

GRAHAM POTTER'S EXCITING MESSAGE AS SOLLY MARCH SIGNS NEW CONTRACT

Alan Brownings: I’m going with the sponsors’ choice of Shane Duffy. I think we missed him dreadfully last year and his partnership with Dunk. Didn’t put a foot wrong and got a goal that was so very nearly two.

How was your return to the Amex?

Colin Beales: Brilliant to be back! Amazing to hear Sussex By The Sea sung by a full crowd, to see faces that I’ve not seen for 18 months and of course the players did their bit to make it another special Amex memory.

James Heasman: Relatively straightforward. As always, the club’s communication was first class and they are clearly looking to ensure both fan and staff safety.

Alan Brownings: The train ride in and back was easy as were the checks and getting into the ground, the fans were fantastic and the performance very fitting. The catering was worse than before and half-time queues horrendous, wish I’d bought a flask of tea… Oh!
