George Garton has been cleared for Sussex’s big T20 day – despite a first call to the Indian Premier League.

The Brighton-born all-rounder will play for Sharks at Vitality Blast T20 Finals Day at Edgbaston on September 18.

He then heads off to join Royal Challengers Bangalore for the remainder of the disrupted 2021 IPL.

News that he can play at Finals Day will be welcomed by Sussex supporters with spinning all-rounder Rashid Khan unavailable.

Rashid thumped 27 off nine balls in a run chase as Sharks beat Yorkshire in the final over of a thrilling quarter-final on Tuesday.

His busy cricketing calendar means he will not be available for the big day in Birmingham.

Rashid said: “I’m so happy to see the team in the finals twice since I’ve been in the team.

“But it’s a shame I won’t be available for them at Finals Day. Every player would love to be there.”

Sussex seamer Ollie Robinson took 2-16 from ten overs yesterday as England bowled out India for just 78 in the third Test at Headingley before reaching 120-0 in reply.

Meanwhile Sussex batter Georgia Adams scored 88 from 60 deliveries for Southern Vipers at Hove.

But they lost by six wickets to Central Sparks in the Charlotte Edwards Cup.
