Albion set a new club record during their win at Brentford.

And Graham Potter said the “fantastic” achievement reflected well on the cosmopolitan nature of the club.

The Seagulls had ten full internationals on the pitch at the same time for much of the game in West London.

Club historian Tim Carder revealed that had never previously happened.

History was made in unfortunate circumstances – when Adam Webster limped out of the action.

He was replaced by Poland international Jakub Moder.

The fact Robert Sanchez made his Spain debut six days earlier helped Albion have ten full caps on the pitch - with Neal Maupay the odd man out.

They came from seven different countries, including three England players.

The tally remained at ten, but from eight nations, when Alexis Mac Allister went on for Danny Welbeck.

It slipped back to nine when England under-21 international Solly March replaced Marc Cucurella late on.

Albion boss Potter was told of the new record after the game.

He said: “It’s fantastic. I’m proud of the club, I’m proud of the players.

“It’s great that they can be involved with the national team. It’s great we have got that diversity.

“It’s great we have got that togetherness as well.

“I think we all learn, we all get better because there are people from different parts of the world that bring their own truths, they bring their own experiences, they being their own views on things.

“It makes us all better.

“Congratulations to the club and the players - fantastic.”

Albion would have had a full international XI had, for example, Aaron Connolly been on the pitch rather than Maupay. Whether that would have made them a stronger team is open to debate.

Steven Alzate and Enock Mwepu are both full internationals who did not play on Saturday.

Matchwinner Leandro Trossard played in all three of Belgium’s games over the international window, one of them as sub.

He revealed he felt sharp as he returned to Prem action.

Trossard said: “It has been a tough week with the travelling but I really wanted to enjoy this game and I feel good at the moment with the minutes I am getting.
