ALBION midfielder Maisie Symonds believes Birmingham City will want to take revenge when they play tonight.

Coach Hope Powell's side will take on the Blues in the opening group game of this season's Conti Cup, the same team that they beat 5-0 at St Andrew's in September.

Symonds will have an important job in the match as she will have to help Albion contain Birmingham City's midfield.

She said: "We want to do well in the Conti Cup.

"But Birmingham are going to be a tough team to play against and are going to want to extract some sort of revenge. They will want to show us that our win over them was a one-off.

"They are definitely not going to roll over."

Symonds has only just made her comeback from a calf injury when she played against Tottenham Hotspur in Sunday's 2-1 win, and she also set up the winner with a good delivery from a corner kick.

The England Under-19 international said: "I was very happy to be back. Spurs were in great form heading into the game but we knew we could beat them if we stuck to our game plan.

"I did not know if I'd get game time, but I tried to make an impact when I came on, which fortunately I did with Victoria Williams scoring from my corner.

"At the time I did not know it would be the winning goal. I wanted to contribute and it was great to see Victoria get the goal.

"They scored straight after, and it was squeaky bum time."

Albion's women managed to hold onto all three points and continue their good start to the Women's Super League campaign, in which they currently sit in fifth place.

Symonds believes that the club is really improving with some factors off the pitch, such as the new training ground and the pathway that is on offer to younger players.

Symonds said: "We have proven to ourselves that we can beat the top teams and compete with the best. We want to push on, we have got goals and we are working towards that.

"I am really enjoying my time. It is great to have a pathway into the first team and to be able to make progress. It is exciting.

"The new training ground is amazing, we have got everything we need, and it is showing on the pitch. We are pushing to beat the top teams and working towards consistently beating the teams around us.
