DAN Burn has been rewarded for his stellar performance against Norwich City with a spot in the Premier League team of the week.

The Albion defender was selected by the League's all-time leading goalscorer Alan Shearer as one of the four best defenders over the weekend's fixtures.

Burn was named man of the match against the Canaries after he made multiple last-ditch tackles to deny Josh Sargent and Teemu Pukki chances to score.

Both tackles, if mistimed, could have given away a penalty and his place on the pitch as he was the last man, but Burn made no mistake on each occasion.

The 29-year-old made two other tackles, four clearances, blocked one shot, and played 58 passes with an 85 per cent accuracy rate as he played the full ninety minutes.

Shearer selected the former Wigan Athletic defender alongside West Ham's Angelo Ogbonna, Tottenham's Sergio Reguilón, Southampton's Tino Livramento and Chelsea's Edouard Mendy to make up a solid looking defence.

The former Newcastle striker then chose a midfield trio of Liverpool's James Milner, West Ham's Declan Rice and Leicester City's Youri Tielemans.

The attacking three were made up of Liverpool's Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino and Tottenham's Harry Kane.

Burn's performance was also praised by Albion fans on social media. One fan compared the defender to England's World Cup-winning captain. He said: "Were we watching Dan Burn or Bobby Moore at Carrow Road."

Another fan said: "He's proven when called upon at centre-back, that he can more than do the job for Brighton."

On Albion fan said: "Big Dan Burn won us that point. What a performance from him.

Another said: "Dan Burn was absolutely terrific today. If it was not for him and two very last-ditch tackles, Brighton could have easily lost the game."

Fans will be hoping the defender can continue this fine form in their next two Premier League fixtures against fellow top four teams, Manchester City and Liverpool.

There may also be some optimism that Burn can repeat his heroics against Manchester City as he scored his only goal for Albion against the Citizens in a famous 3-2 win at the Amex last season.
