This is arguably how Albion players rated as individuals against Manchester City.

As a unit, it felt like stung pride plus increased urgency and tempo in the second half - against a City side who probably dropped a level in those aspects - gave fans 30 minutes or so to really enjoy.

Robert Sanchez 6/10

The second game in which he has made a notable error and he was punished this time. Unconvincing too on the third goal but also made several saves, the best of them low down from Cancelo early and in two one-on-ones with Foden.

Joel Veltman 6/10

Paired with Grealish, the man he nullified last season. The overall sensation was that he again did a decent job but Grealish, while generally quiet, was involved in two goals.

Lewis Dunk 6/10

An astonishing clearance to delay the opening goal but had an uncomfortable first half as the game was won and lost. Found it hard to play out from the back as City shut down options.

Dan Burn 5/10

This time there were no last-ditch tackles to rescue Albion as City showed a ruthless touch. Was later replaced.

Solly March 7/10

Started wide on the right but played a range of roles and was at his best in behind the front man – or where a front man would have been. Used the ball well.

Adam Lallana 6/10

Has adapted his game to that deep-lying midfield role, which means he can get the ball rolling from deep but is arguably not the best use of his qualities.

Pascal Gross 5/10

Dropped very deep to get on the ball and then looked for passing options which often did not exist. Struggled to make an impact.

Jakub Moder 6/10

Can drift into spaces and find short, clever, simple passes to release others. Did this to good effect in the second half having been hardly seen in the first. A less simple pass helped City add their fourth.

Marc Cucurella 6/10

A misplaced pass in the opposition box can prove costly against this City side who love it when play is stretched. Was a good outlet raiding down the left but that possibly distracted from the fact he was chasing shadows defensively at times.

Leandro Trossard 6/10

A little unlucky to see his shot bounce over the bar via Ederson’s body as he offered some excitement and invention once Albion got into the contest.

Neal Maupay 5/10

Snuffed out by the City defence and struggled to make any impression.

Subs - Tariq Lamptey 7/10

A big step up from his impact on comeback at Norwich. Again went on at a good time and this time made the most of it with some brilliant work.

Enock Mwepu 6/10

Playing as an advanced midfielder or false No.9, he will have benefited from what was a positive outing. Joined in passing moves and twice got into great positions, miskicking first time and then forcing a penalty.

Alexis Mac Allister n/a

Crashed home a penalty with more power than precision to give Albion their first goal since you know who at you know where.
