FORMER Albion star Mark Lawrenson defender has predicted that the Seagulls are in for an impossible task when they take on Liverpool this weekend.

The retired defender played for Albion between the years of 1977 and 1981, making 152 appearances for the side before leaving to join Liverpool for a £900,000 fee.

His former side travels to Anfield to take on the Reds and are coming into the game a win in five games in all competitions.

Liverpool on the other hand have hit top form and have won their last five games, including their 5-0 hammering of Manchester United in the Premier League last Sunday.

Lawrenson told the Argus: "It is a massive ask going to Anfield at the moment, the way Liverpool are playing at the moment is frightening. I was in Madrid for the game against Athletic and it was one of the best games I have seen for a long time, they were fantastic.

"They have no people injured that would generally be in the team, the front three are fantastic, or four is you count Diogo Jota.

"I know Brighton won there last time, but I think Liverpool will win because they are sweeping everyone out of their way.

"No disrespect to Brighton, but the whole place at the moment is like it is on fire, it is like wow. They are playing so well and with all the goals they have scored already it is frightening.

"What you saw in the first-half against Manchester City last week is what Liverpool are like for the full ninety minutes.

"It is a really tough place to go with how they are at the moment. The two full-backs with the way the attack is non-stop, it comes from every single angle with pace and guile and all those kind of things.

"Most of the Reds have had a week off as well, compared to Albion's players."

Despite the odds, Lawrenson believes Albion should not go in to the game with any fear, especially after their good start to the season.

He said: "It is a free hit for them, nobody expects them to do anything, I can't see Brighton winning. The worse that can happen is that they get beaten and they probably will, but the result at Anfield does not define Brighton's season.

"Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool are the teams to beat this season, with the way they are playing and it shows how far away they are from the top.

"You just don't want to get an embarrassing four or five-nil and just keep it as tight as you can. Brighton are not going to attack Liverpool, because that would be footballing suicide."
