ALBION defender Tariq Lamptey has been named in the European under 21 team of the week after his stellar performance against Leeds on Saturday.

The 21-year-old was in great form against Marcelo Bielsa's team and proved to be a constant thorn in their side.

Lamptey was deployed higher up the pitch by Graham Potter, and for most of his time on the pitch, he was playing as a right-winger rather than a right-back or even a right-wing-back.

The former Chelsea youth academy graduate was unlucky not to be on the winning side due to the high level of his performance, but Albion were just unable to find the winning goal as the game ended in a 0-0 draw.

A small reward for Lamptey will be knowing that his performance did not go unnoticed as he was selected by WhoScored.com for a spot in their team of the week, made up of under 21 players from around Europe.

Lamptey was named in the team alongside world-class talents such as Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies, Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz, Arsenal's Bukayo Saka and Crystal Palace duo Connor Gallagher and Marc Guehi.

Potter will be hoping Lamptey can continue that good form in their next match in the Premier League, which is against West Ham United at the London Stadium.

The defender has also been linked with a move to Manchester United following their appointment of German manager Ralf Rangnick.
