ALBION goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has been supported by manager Graham Potter after a mixed showing against Southampton.

The 24-year-old was at fault for the opening goal as his poor clearance was won by a Saints defender which set off their quick attack down the field.

Nathan Redmond headed the ball on to Armando Broja, who capitalised on poor communication between Sanchez and defender Shane Duffy to give the hosts the lead.

However, despite this error, Sanchez did make some really good saves throughout the game to keep Albion in the game.

This was vital as it allowed Neal Maupay's 98th-minute goal prove to be enough to give Potter's side another point on the road.

Potter told media: "Football is a game of mistakes in that regard.

"Rob's distribution is part of his strengths and I think his first half [against Southampton] was probably a little bit like the team, so it is not about an individual.

"He made some good saves to keep us at 1-0 in the first half. He is a young goalkeeper that will get better and improve."

"He made a couple of saves, particularly at the end.

"He probably didn’t have the best of first halves by his standards, but it was nice for him to come through that and show us what he’s about in the second half, because he was really good, he’s a young goalkeeper and sometimes you have to go through that process.

"We’re really happy with Rob, he contributed to us getting a point."
