Dan Burn has revealed how he is reaping the rewards of a challenging first season with Graham Potter.

The Albion defender has been in great form of late as his side have gone five unbeaten in the Premier League.

Burn has played on the left of a three, as one of centre-back paring or wider on the left of late.

He spoke in his first season with the Seagulls back in 2019-20 about how life on the left had taken him out of what he we was used to.

All those lessons have paid off as he produces his best for yet for the club at the best time – with skipper Lewis Dunk and fellow defender Shane Duffy injured.

As with Joel Veltman and Adam Webster, one of the things which impresses with Burn is the variety of defensive tasks he carries out.

That flexibility is essential in a Graham Potter team.

Burn said: “I like to be taken out of my comfort zone.

“When I played left-back, I got to learn a lot more about that decision.

“So now I know when we are defending how far across I can pull on the cover or that, when we lose the ball, we can win it right back.

“Any time you are out on the pitch playing in different positions you just have to learn from it.”

Burn appears set to retain his starting spot when Albion tackle Leicester.

To what degree he comes under pressure depends on how Dunk emerges from training today.

It would appear very tough on any of Burn, Veltman or Webster to step down should Dunk and/or Tariq Lamptey start at the King Power.

But Burn said: “The good thing about the gaffer is he does not play the same team, week in week out.

“So I think even if you do drop out there will be a game in the next few weeks that you get a game.”

Albion are on course for their best finish under Potter – and possibly in the club’s history.

They have yet to win at Leicester since coming up in 2017.

The closest they came was in the Restart fixtures when they drew 0-0 after Neal Maupay had a penalty saved.

But Albion have won at Everton and scored at Chelsea of late, neither of which they had managed before.

Burn said: “I think our performances since the gaffer has been here have been quite consistent.

“We have probably been lifting it a bit every season.

“We have 11 draws this season which is a lot but if you look at how many of those games we are getting beat in and we have picked up points is massive.

“We are hard to beat which is important and it makes a massive difference and we are taking more of our chances.”
