Danny Welbeck has been praised for his goal-grabbing impact off the bench.

But Albion are still keen to get him up to full speed for a potential regular starting role.

Welbeck’s second goal as a sub secured a 1-1 draw at Leicester on Sunday.

It followed a similar strike in the draw at Chelsea last month.

Welbeck has generally come off the bench since recovering from hamstring surgery, although he played the first hour at home to Chelsea.

Stand-in boss Bjorn Hamberg said: “Everyone knows what Danny Welbeck brings to any team.

“We are really happy to have him with us.

“He did well against Chelsea at home.

“We are trying to get him up to speed as good as we can.

“But coming off the bench he can still have a big impact for us.”

Welbeck is out of contract at the end of this season but there is likely to be call from fans to keep him for another campaign.

Hamberg said the vastly experienced former England frontman has a positive effect around the club, whether he is playing or not.

He added: “As long as I am part of this club I would love to have Danny around.

“He brings so much off the pitch as well.

“He is great quality. He is one of them who tries to look after other people, one of those who tries to push every day and we would love to have him here.”
