The Albion midfielder tested positive for Covid-19.
He has not travelled to Chile, where Argentina are due to play a World Cup qualifier at altitude.
Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni and Aston Villa midfielder Emi Buendía miss the trip for the same reason.
