Moises Caicedo has moved a step closer to a place at the World Cup finals.

The Albion midfielder helped Ecuador come from behind to draw 1-1 with Brazil in last night’s qualifier.

Ecuador thought they had a late penalty to win the game but the decision, against Brazilian goalkeeper Allison, was reversed after a VAR check.

It was the second time in the game the Liverpool goalkeeper had had a red card withdrawn on review.

Ecuador remain very much in the running to reach the finals, which would be great news for Caicedo and Albion colleague Jeremy Sarmiento, who is currently out injured.

Albion target Julio Enciso could not save Paraguay from a 1-0 home defeat by Uruguay.

Enciso was bright as a 70th-minute sub as he earned his third cap.

A Luis Suarez goal settled the qualifier and left Paraguay with little chance of reaching Qatar.

Paraguayan commentators made no secret of the fact the 18-year-old is expected to join Albion ahead of Monday night’s transfer deadline.

Listeners to La Deportiva radio were informed he would be joining “a club who know how to develop young players”.
