Newcastle were today understood to be weighing up their next move after a bid for Dan Burn was turned down.

But their quest for the Albion defender could go all the way to deadline day.

The Seagulls rejected an initial offer this week.

Toon are in a race against time to add personnel to their quest to protect Premier League status as Monday’s transfer deadline nears.

Burn has produced his best form yet for Albion in recent weeks.

It would appear Newcastle are hoping the lure of a return to his home area – to play for the club he grew up supporting - will prove irresistible.

But they would first need to meet Albion’s valuation of him.

Toon need a centre-back and Diego Carlos of Sevilla is their prime target.

But, with a potential deal proving difficult, Burn could become a shrewd back-up option going into the final day of the window.

BRIGHTON COULD OFFER NEW OPTION FOR FANS

Burn appears happy with Albion and has spoken recently of how he has developed as a player under the coaching of Graham Potter.

Whether Newcastle pursue interest in Burn could be one of the major talking points of what is likely to be a quiet end to the January window for Albion.
