Marc Cucurella could earn a Spain call – if the “perfect signing” maintains his Albion form.

The left-back’s Premier League progress has been noted back home as he strings together a lengthy series of consistent performances.

He faces stiff competition to break into Luis Enrique’s talented squad.

But is understood there could be one or two surprises when Spain play friendlies against Albania and Iceland next month.

Cucurella’s quality was not in doubt when he signed from Getafe at the end of August.

But he has impressed with his durability and consistency – and now leads Albion’s outfield players in terms of minutes completed, despite arriving three games into the season.

Albion coach and former full-back Bruno told Radio Marca: “He has surprised me at all levels – not just football but also as a person.

“He is a very mature person. He has adapted to English football and he is playing to a really high level.

“He grew up as a footballer at the Barca school and all the tools from there help him solve problems on the pitch.

“He understands space and the more space you have, the more time you have.

“He has adapted to the ideas of Graham (Potter) and the club and he has been the perfect signing for us.”

Jose Gaya of Valencia and Jordi Alba at Barcelona lead the pecking order for left-back duties with Spain.

But Gaya is a concern after he left Valencia’s defeat by Barca on Sunday with a hamstring problem.

Premier League duo Marcos Alonso and Sergio Reguilon are also in Enrique’s thoughts.

Like Cucurella, Alex Moreno of in-form Real Betis has seen his stock rise of late.

An Argus source in Spain said: “Alba is playing all the time at Barca because they don’t have an alternative but we will see in a month because Cucu is causing an impact here.

“We can’t rule out surprises because they are two friendlies.

“Lucho (Enrique) sets a lot of store in players operating in the same 4-3-3 system as the national team so that could be a factor.”
