LEWES FC is set to welcome former players as they host what is expected to be a sold-out and high-stakes derby this weekend.

For the Rooks' match with Sussex rival Worthing, 45 veteran players from both teams from as far back as the 1970s will be at the game cheering their respective sides on.

One of those attending will be Terry Parris, who currently holds the all-time record number of appearances at the club and helped bring together the players despite their on-pitch rivalry.

He said: "There has always been great friendship and respect between Lewes and Worthing and also great rivalry - there is never a dull moment when we play each other.

“A number joining us played for both teams, including myself. We met many times in my time at the club starting in the early 70s, we have a mixture of players and management here who presented both clubs from that time until the present.

“Being able to get together is really important, very often we see each other celebrating someone we have lost and many of those would have been with us.

“This is an opportunity to be together and also to celebrate our lost friends.”

Mr Parris said that the Rooks are very proud of their history and that both clubs have seen many changes over the years, with investment making them more welcoming for fans and players alike.

He said: “All those attending the match contributed heavily towards this success and should never be forgotten.”

Mr Parris made 662 appearances for Lewes FC, before progressing to coach, manager and chairman.

Worthing are currently top of the Premier Division table of the Isthmian League, which would see them promoted to the Vanarama National League South. The Rooks are currently sixth in the table.

The Dripping Pan has been the home stadium of Lewes FC since the team’s foundation in 1885.
