ALBION suffered their sixth defeat in a row as they were beaten by Antonio Conte’s Spurs side at the Amex Stadium.

Dejan Kulusevski’s deflected shot off Christian Romero and Harry Kane’s tidy finish were enough to send Spurs back to London with all three points.

The loss meant that Graham Potter’s side stay 13th in the table, two points behind Southampton in tenth.

Albion made two changes following Saturday's defeat against Liverpool – their fifth in a row – with Shane Duffy and Pascal Gross starting in place of Tariq Lamptey and Steven Alzate.

Tottenham named an unchanged side for their trip to the Amex.

Spurs were beaten 3-2 at Manchester United on Saturday but Antonio Conte kept faith with the same players.

There was an early scare for Albion as a loose pass in the box almost fell to Heung-Min Son, but luckily Shane Duffy was able to fire the ball to safety.

In the 5th minute, there was an even bigger scare as Harry Kane chased down Robert Sanchez and blocked his clearance. The England captain managed to get to the ball before it went out of play but his first-time shot went wide of the post to spare the goalkeeper's blushes.

Neal Maupay was given a yellow card in the 6th minute as he caught Eric Dier with his elbow while jumping for a header.

Kane was causing more problems in the 15th minute as he lost his marker Lewis Dunk and fired a speculative volley over the bar from the edge of the box.

Albion were almost gifted the lead in the 17th minute as Maupay was brought to the ground by Dier, but before the referee could blow his whistle, midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur lashed the ball over his own bar from 40-yards.

Trossard mustered Albion's first shot of the game in the 22nd minute however it was blocked by Cristian Romero and out for a corner. From the following corner, Dunk rose highest to get to the cross from Gross, but the defender could not guide the ball goalwards.

Albion had another chance in front of goal five minutes later as Alexis Mac Allister's shot was blocked by Dier. There were then shouts for a handball as the ball rebounded onto Bentancur's arm while he was on the ground, although referee Robert Jones waved away the complaints.

In the 36th minute, Spurs took the lead. Dejan Kulusevski was given the ball by Son and tried his luck from the edge of the box. The attacker's shot then deflected off of Romero and into the corner of the goal. Sanchez was left wrong-footed by the deflection, but there was very little he could have done to prevent the goal.

Albion had a chance to get straight back into the game as Maupay broke forward. The striker took on two players on the edge of the box but his effort was eventually blocked and the rebound by Mac Allister went out for goal kick.

Kulusevski then had a brilliant chance to double Spurs' advantage after capitalising on a mistake from Dunk, but was denied by a great stop from Sanchez.

Spurs defender Reguilón was then booked for a foul in the 43rd minute as he stopped an Albion counter-attack.

Veltman was the third player to go into the book in the first half as he fouled Kane on the edge of the Albion box in the 45th minute. The resulting free-kick was fired over the bar by Kane.

Spurs doubled their lead in the 56th minute after Son sent Kane through on goal during a quick counter-attack.

The striker ran into the box and slotted his shot into Sanchez’s near post to put his side into a commanding position.

There was a VAR check to see if he was offside but replays showed he was not breaking the defensive line.

The goal saw Kane become the highest scorer of away goals in Premier League history, with 95, while also climbing above Frank Lampard into fifth in the all-time list with 178.

In the 71st minute, Spurs had the chance to put the game to bed as Kane played Reguilon through on goal. The full-back looked certain to score but Sanchez made a great stop to deny him.

Albion pressed until the end and Danny Welbeck made some good runs after coming on for Bissouma.

But they were unable to threaten Hugo Lloris’s goal despite their efforts in the closing stages.
