FORMER Albion midfielder Mathias Normann has admitted leaving the club was the "best decision" that he has made in his career.

Normann left Albion in 2019 to join Russian Premier League side FC Rostov, after spending only 18 months at the club.

Since leaving Albion Normann has forged his career as a solid central midfielder and impressed during the start of his loan spell at Norwich City this season.

The 25-year-old is played against his old side at Carrow Road in a 0-0 draw in October. Ahead of that game, before that match Normann spoke about his decision to leave the club.

“The agent I had was not willing to help me go to Rostov. Then I just took another road,” he later explained to Norwegian broadcaster TV2, via PinkUn.

“He wanted me to be patient and work in Brighton. I was quite impatient at this point. But it turned out to be the right choice to go to Rostov. It is the best decision I have made in my career.”

This Saturday, Normann will return to the Amex Stadium as Norwich play Albion in the Premier League.

While Albion have lost their previous six games, Norwich are also on their own poor run of form having lost their previous six games. The Canaries have not won in their last eight games in the league.

Recently Normann's form has dropped, but he is not making excuses for himself.

"I have not been the normal Mathias. I've played a little below par. There is no excuse, but the explanation may be the difficult period we have had. But I know who I am, what I'm good at, and it's just not good enough at the moment," he told the Eastern Daily Press.

"I am the worst loser in the world. I am in bad mood all the time. It affects my girlfriend, of course, it can’t be easy for her. I am often grumpy, and I complain a lot (when Norwich lose)."
