Graham Potter says Albion will only sell at the right time and the right price this summer – as he prepares for a lively summer.

The head coach believes it is not realistic to keep hold of all his stars at any price.

But Albion are well-placed as rivals are linked with some of their top performers.

Tony Bloom held firm over Ben White last summer before securing the right deal as the defender joined Arsenal for £50 million.

The Seagulls did not sign a direct replacement but still made progress in the Premier League.

As a result, things could be more complex this summer with Robert Sanchez, Yves Bissouma and Marc Cucurella all reported to be attracting interest.

Potter said: “I won’t complain about having too many £40 million or £50 million players, that’s for sure.

“You know the narrative. You need to keep your best players.

“I understand why that is because that’s just sensible.

“But there is a hierarchy in football and there is a reality of finances.

“We can’t sit here and say, ‘Yeah, we’re going to keep all our players between now and five years’ time’ because clearly that puts a huge strain on the economic position of the club.

“It’s important for us to keep moving that forward and that’s the way we compete, I think.

“Selling Ben for £50 million and getting better is how we can compete in the system.

“Then it’s about selling the right player at the right time at the right price and I think we are quite good at that – or we have been recently.

“I have absolute confidence in the club.

“I have absolute confidence is us in terms of finding the right solution to go forward.”

Albion can attract players as a potential stepping stone to bigger things in the Premier League.

But, for that to happen, they have to be prepared to let those players move on.

Potter said: “It’s good for the players because they know there is a chance we could help their careers and their life.

GRAHAM POTTER SAYS BRIGHTON PLAYED A BIT TOO SAFE

“It’s important in terms recruiting players because you have got to offer something if you are not paying the financial level some teams are.

“What’s the saying - more money, more problems?

“So it might get complicated but it’s a good problem.”
