Two-goal Leandro Trossard has been told he has grown as a player – helped by Eden Hazard.

The Albion star went on as sub for Hazard and seized the chance to help Belgium thrash Poland 6-1 in the UEFA Nations League.

His first goal was very similar to that he scored away to Wolves during his impressive end to the Premier League season with the Seagulls as he cut inside a tackle and shot home left-footed.

The second was a stunner as he played a short corner on the left wing with Yannick Carrasco, drifted inside, looked up and curled a right-foot shot into the far top angle.

Trossard looks a certainty for the World Cup and his performances for club and country have sparked suggestions in Belgium that he is of interest to Manchester United.

Belgium boss Roberto Martinez said: “It’s great to see Leandro grow within the group.

“There is a lot of talent in Belgium but you have to be patient in the process and let them develop.

“Today Leandro knows how to create things, how to be a key player, how to choose his moments.

“Being able to observe Eden Hazard for several years has helped him.”

Trossard laughed off suggestions his second goal was intended as a cross.

He said: “I wanted to shoot, even if it looked like a cross because I took my time over hitting the ball.

“I saw the goalkeeper was out and I tried to put the ball as close to the far post as I could – and it went in.”

Trossard could enjoy another chance to shine when Belgium visit Wales on Saturday in their third Nations League fixture.
