Albion duo Moises Caicedo and Jeremy Sarmiento look set for World Cup action after all – despite a threat from a South American rival.
Chile had argued Ecuador should be thrown out due to allegations over the eligibility of Byron Castillo, who they claimed was actually Colombian.
However their lawyer’s argument was thrown out today by FIFA.
Although Chile can still appeal, the decision appears to clear the way for Ecuador to take their place in Qatar in the same group as the hosts, Holland and Senegal.
Ecuador coach Gustavo Alfaro said: “We were always calm. The only worry we had was for Byron Castillo, for what he was suffering and which was totally unjust.
“There was never a day or a morning or a training session when we didn’t think we would keep our place, despite the media pressure.
“We have got nothing to celebrate. We celebrated after the match against Paraguay, when we clinched our qualification.”
MOISES CAICEDO TOLD HE MUST STAR AGAIN FOR BRIGHTON NEXT SEASON
Alfaro confirmed Sarmiento, who is making his way back from hamstring problems, would enjoy more playing time in the friendly with Cape Verde this weekend - but no more than 45 minutes.
