Sussex produced an incredible comeback to inflict Surrey’s first defeat of the T20 Blast campaign, writes Joe Grant.

The Sharks won by 17 runs in dramatic style.

Surrey looked set to pick up yet another victory after Will Jacks struck a brilliant 76 from 48 balls, including 11 fours and one six put them in a brilliant position.

However, Sussex fought back brilliantly with the ball to pick up their first win in six matches.

Surrey were 106 for two wickets after the first ten overs needing just 67 for victory before Sussex took eight wickets for 44 runs to clinch victory from the jaws of defeat.

The batting collapse started with Rashid Khan bowling Sunil Narine for six and Delray Rawlins removing Rory Burns who was stumped by Mohammad Rizwan for four.

The brilliant Will Jacks edged behind off the bowling of Rawlins.

Chris Jordan was ran out by Bopara following a mix up before the Sussex captain had Atkinson caught behind for five.

Tymal Mills then had Conor McKerr caught for one at mid-on by Harrison Ward.

Bopara took the last wicket with his second run out of the match of Dan Moriarty.

Rawlins provided the firepower at the end of the innings to launch Sussex to a defendable score of 172-5 from their twenty overs.

Rawlins struck 34 runs from just 17 balls with some powerful hitting. Sussex looked like they had lost the momentum following a positive start when they lost four wickets in quick succession.

Ali Orr edged behind off the bowling of Gus Atkinson for 30, before Rizwan was run out by Jordan who got a direct hit after Rizwan slipped trying to get back in his crease.

The Pakistan international looked in his usual imperious form hitting 48 off 32. Atkinson picked up his second wicket of an impressive spell of two for 17 from three overs, bowling Tom Alsop round his legs for 11.
