Dale Stephens will train with Albion until the end of the week as he looks for a new club.

The former Seagulls midfielder says he is lucky to have the chance to work at Lancing.

Pre-season training continues this week before Albion start their friendly fixtures against Union St-Gilloise on Saturday.

Stephens, who was released by Burnley at the end of last season, said: “It’s trying to find the right fit.

“I had a difficult couple of years not playing many minutes.

“I think the main focus is trying to get as many games as possible over the next couple of years.

“All last week or so I’ve been okay.

“A lot of lads are in the same position.

“The closer it gets to the start of the season, which is obviously the end of the month in the Championship, it’s obviously going to play on your nerves a little bit more.

“At the moment, I think I’m in a good enough position where I’ve been lucky enough to go down to Brighton and train last week.

“I’m due to do that this week up until Friday so I know I’m doing as much as I can in the meantime.

“I can imagine in a couple of weeks’ time it will be more edgy, I think.”

Stephens revealed he knew Burnley would let him go - but confirmation only came when he saw the news on Twitter.

He worked alone on his fitness while on holiday in Greece.

Speaking to TalkSPORT, he added: “I’m in the best position at the moment in that I’m getting touches of the ball and the physical output.

“The technical stuff I probably wouldn’t get if I was training on my own.”
