Tom Alsop relished a great day for Sussex as they piled up the runs.

Alsop matched his career best of 150 as the county piled up 407-4 against Leicestershire at Hove.

But there was bad news for Sussex too, as Tom Haines will miss the remainder of this match plus the next five to six weeks after sustaining a fracture of a bone in his left hand.

Sussex are looking to follow up their recent win over Derbyshire.

Alsop said: “I still can’t seem to get past 150, which remains my top score.

“It was a great day for the club all round, and it was just great to be part of it.

“We’re in a really good position. That win over Derbyshire meant so much to so many people. Suddenly, everyone is full of confidence and things are starting to gel.”

Alsop has turned an initial loan from Hampshire into a permanent deal, from next season.

He said: “Sussex have really made me feel at home, so the credit for that must go to the coaching staff and the other players. From day one I’ve felt part of things here.”
