This is how we thought Albion players rated on an individual basis as they secured a famous win at Old Trafford.

It was a match which called for different qualities and some players showed various sides of their game.

As a collective, they were brilliantly organised, offering Unied little as they tried to play through their visitors.

ROBERT SANCHEZ 7/10

The flag was up when he made his best save, from Rashford, but VAR may well have overturned that had the ball gone in, making it a huge moment. Did some good things but should have been stronger on the United goal.

JOEL VELTMAN 8/10

Potter places huge faith in his back three and Veltman again did a rock solid job in a quite unfussy way on the right of the trio.

LEWIS DUNK 8/10

Slid in to make a potential goal-saving block. That was part of a commanding defensive performance in front of Gareth Southgate (for what that is worth), albeit against little test for the first 50-odd minutes. Really stood strong in that United rally.

ADAM WEBSTER 8/10

A rock solid start to the season. Read the game, won the ball when needed and made a great block when Ronaldo at last got a sniff of a chance.

SOLLY MARCH 7/0

Played higher up than might have been expected and his shot led to the winning goal. A very competent display.

ALEXIS MAC ALLISTER 7/10

Unlucky on the own goal when he was trying do the right thing but did a good, diligent job deep in midfield and made an important block on McTominay just before Fernandes's great early chance.

MOISES CAICEDO 9/10

A hugely influential midfield performance in the first half – and pretty good too in the second. Worked as an extra centre-back at times but also got forward and used the ball.

LEANDRO TROSSARD 8/10

His eager pressing almost brought a goal in ten seconds. Played well forward, which gave Dalot a problem. Slid a shrewd pass in the build-up to the first goal - and that back heel to start the move for the second!

PASCAL GROSS 8/10

Two simple finishes but he had to get himself into those great positions beyond the far post as play developed. Ironically, this was not his best game in terms of passing the ball - but he was part of the build-up for his two goals.

The Argus:

ADAM LALLANA 8/10

A great selection for this big occasion when Potter might easily have stuck with the XI which started against Espanyol. Good work on the ball and energetic pressing after he was given the nod to start.

DANNY WELBECK 8.5/10

Led the attack, brought others into play, teed up the opening goal and might easily have had a penalty. Looks like he is enjoying himself and should have tested De Gea with a second-half header.

SUBS - ENOCK MWEPU N/A

Wasn’t on for long but played a valuable part in the win as he bolstered Albion during what could have been a tricky last few minutes.

TARIQ LAMPTEY N/A

Helped stem the tide by giving United something to think about defensively when they just wanted to attack.

LEVI COLWILL N/A

Added extra defensive presence with a late debut.

DENIZ UNDAV N/A

Sent on for a few seconds.
