FORMER Albion goalkeeper Mat Ryan has a new cub after signing for FC Copenhagen.

The Danish Superliga champions signed the Socceroos captain on a two-year deal following his release from La Liga side Real Sociedad.

Ryan made 122 appearances for Albion during his four-year spell at the Amex.

He had become the club's number one goalkeeper before he was replaced by current star Robert Sanchez following a spell of questionable form.

The goalkeeper initially left Albion on loan to Arsenal before he was sold to Real Sociedad in 2021.

The 30-year-old has said that Copenhagen is a club with a "fantastic reputation throughout Europe" and now his future is sorted he can aim to impress and be picked for Australia for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar this year.

He said: "The team has great quality and the ambitions for the club are high in terms of winning titles and competing in the biggest tournaments in Europe.

"I will work hard to contribute to that."

Ryan will replaced the club's current goalkeeper, Kamil Grabara, who is sidelined with injury.

Head coach Jess Thorup sees Ryanโ€™s arrival as a boost to his side.

"Itโ€™s a very talented goalkeeper who is coming to Copenhagen, and he will certainly increase the competition in that position," says Thorup.

"His career in Europe has always been at a high level, and he is definitely a winner who sets the bar high for himself and his teammates.ย

"He is lightning fast, good with his feet and has plenty of experience, so we are looking forward to working with him."
