Levi Colwill has been backed to settle in quickly with Albion.

The highly-regarded Chelsea defender was on the bench at Old Trafford after signing on loan.

But he was trusted by boss Graham Potter to go on and help the defence as Manchester United looked to pile up pressure playing towards the Stretford End.

Colwill did a solid and unfussy job as the Seagulls saw out a 2-1 win with confidence and comfort in the closing stages.

Fellow defender Adam Webster said: “We only had maybe one session with him but he will settle in really well.

“We have got a really good group.

“He’s a young lad but we can help him develop and he seems a great lad.”

Both Albion and Newcastle will be expected to field unchanged XIs as they meet at the Amex on Saturday.

But Potter might feel he wants to make a tactical change to combat Toon.

And, besides, substitutions are more important than ever.

Colwill can offer a natural left-footed option on that side of defence as the season progresses.

The 19-year-old, who shone at Huddersfield last season, has spoken about stepping out of his comfort zone.

He said: “It’s time to prove myself in the Prem with a great club, a great team. There are no excuses.”

Colwill was highly regarded after his stellar loan spell at Huddersfield last season in which he almost won promotion, only to miss out in the play-off final to Nottingham Forest.
