GRAHAM POTTER has admitted that he wants more success at the Amex Stadium this season after a mixed bag of results at the ground last season.

Last season Albion struggled for consistency at home as they only won five of their 19 Premier League fixtures compared to seven victories on their travels.

This meant that Albion averaged 1.16 points at the Amex and 1.53 points away from home.

Another point of frustration for home fans was the lack of goals at the Amex. Before the final two home wins against Manchester United and West Ham United, Albion had only managed to score 12 goals in 17 home games.

After those impressive wins they did manage to take their total to 19 goals in home games for the season.

This was still less than their goalscoring exploits away from home, which was much more consistent throughout the season, as they netted 23 times at the other Premier League stadiums.

Defeat wise it was also a worse record at home as Albion were beaten seven times at the Amex in the league last season, including a 3-0 hammering by relegated side Burnley in February.

However, away from home, Albion were only beaten four times as they registered draws at Liverpool and Chelsea and an impressive 3-2 win at Goodison Park over Everton in that run.

Potter came under criticism as the club manager due to the home form last season as fans wanted to see better results at the Amex.

The poor form at the Amex, along with other factors, saw empty seats start to appear in the stands and complaints about the atmosphere compared to that of the travelling fans support.

Potter is hoping that can change this season and is hopeful that his side can improve on their home record this season, while he won't be upset about picking up points away from the Amex of course.

He told the media: "It's best to win in front of your supporters.

"I won't complain if we get points elsewhere but it's nice to win at home and that's what we'll try to do."

If Potter is able to convert his team's impressive away form and continue from where they left off with their victories against the Red Devils and Hammers at the back-end of last season, then it will certainly improve the atmosphere at the Amex and put a smile on the fans faces.

First up at the Amex this season is Eddie Howe's Newcastle side. The Magpies won their opening game of the season as they comfortably beat Nottingham Forest on their Premier League return.

Potter has been impressed by the Magpies since Howe replaced former manager Steve Bruce mid-way through last season.

The former AFC Bournemouth manager helped Newcastle escape relegation last season and even managed to get them up the league and looking to challenge teams trying to get into the top-half of the table.

The club has been taken over by wealthy new owners from Saudi Owners and have brought in three players to strengthen the first-team.

England international goalkeeper Nick Pope was signed from relegated Burnley and impressive centre-back Sven Botman has been signed from Ligue 1 side Lille. The Magpies also signed Matt Targett on a permanent deal from Aston Villa.

While the business has been minimal compared to what football fans thought would happen after the takeover, it has been smart and it has added to the quality Howe has managed to get out of the pre-existing squad.

Potter believes that Howe is doing well at the club and that it will be tough match this weekend.

He said: "Newcastle were impressive at the weekend. It was a deserved victory.

"They have recruited well in the summer and in the January window before.

"One thing that gets overlooked is the quality of Eddie's work. If you look at the front five, they were all there before him and he has improved them as a team and improved individuals.

"Eddie's done a fantastic job. I have a lot of respect for the job he's done.

"It is a brilliant effort from everybody there. They are going to come with a real stern test."
