A former Albion wing-back is up and running after more than a year on the sidelines.

But Ezequiel Schelotto has walked into a volatile environment at his new club as players' cars were set on fire after his first game.

'El Galgo' made his debut for struggling Aldosivi in Argentina last night.

He appeared at right wing-back in a 2-0 defeat at Godoy Cruz, his first appearance since May last year.

He played the first 66 minutes, departing with his side a goal down.

Schelotto, now 33, suffered a knee injury after making his long-awaited return to Argentina to play for Racing Club.

He was regularly an unused sub after returning to fitness and recently moved on.

Aldosivi are 27th in the 28-team league and unhappy fans broke into the training ground while the squad were on their away trip.

They reportedly fired shots to intimidate security staff and then set fire to five cars, four belonging to players and one to a member of the staff.

The ex-Albion man's own car was not among those reported to have been burned.

Aldosivi will play home matches behind closed doors while an investigation is carried out.

Although born in Argentina, Schelotto started his career in Italy and had only played in Europe until February, 2021.

Albion fans will remember him as a marauding, sometimes cavalier, presence down the right, who played 23 times under Chris Hughton before falling out of favour and gong to Chievo on loan.

He was a given a brief swansong for the Seagulls in Graham Potter’s first season, making nine appearances, before Tariq Lamptey emerged in that role.
