IAN WRIGHT believes that Aston Villa misfit Danny Ings would prove to be a hit if he joined Albion.

The former England international made a £30million from Southampton to the Villans last summer and struggled to continue the form that saw him be a hit at St Mary’s Stadium.

This downturn in form has seen his name be linked with a move away from Villa Park this summer, with clubs such as West Ham and Everton being credited with an interest in his signature.

Wright, however, believes that a move to Albion could do work wonders, adding that he could be a 20-goal a season striker at the Amex due to the coaching abilities of manager Graham Potter.

On his podcast, Wright’s House, the former Arsenal striker said: “I can’t remember watching Brighton, since Graham Potter has been there and say ‘oh, they don’t look right today, it’s not happening’.

“They are so well-drilled and well-coached, then they will do that (beating Man United) to a lot more teams. The only problem holding Brighton back is the chances that they miss.

“I always said that if they had a Danny Ings, that type of a striker, if they had a Danny Ings, if that kind of player goes to Brighton, then they get 20 goals.

“They get 20 goals, no question because of how that team is coached.”

Albion currently have three senior strikers in the squad with Danny Welbeck, Deniz Undav and Neal Maupay all battling for a spot in the starting eleven.

However, three could turn to two as Maupay has been linked with a move away from the club with Serie A side Salernitana interested in signing the former Brentford striker for a fee reported to be €15m.

If this move were to come off, then Maupay would follow Albion man Aaron Connolly to Italy after the Irishman was loaned to Serie B side Venezia this summer.

If that move were to happen, Albion could look for a replacement, although last season they made do with two senior strikers and Leandro Trossard as a makeshift striker as well as including youngster Evan Ferguson in the matchday squad when needed.

With Welbeck and Undav left (should Maupay leave), Potter could choose to do the same and avoid a move for Ings, despite Wright's advice.
