Julio Enciso produced a high quality finish for Albion under-21s against Liverpool today.

Cheered from the stand by his dad, over from Paraguay, the teenager scored the opener late on in the Premier League 2 contest at Lancing.

But a precise finish from Layton Stewart on 89 minutes meant the Seagulls had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

They lost Jeremy Sarmiento inside the first 15 minutes, although the fact the Ecuador international then watched the action from pitchside suggested the problem was not serious.

Enciso endured a frustrating afternoon until late on.

His golden moment arrived on 86 minutes.

He showed pace and strength to hold off a defender as they chased Levi Colwill’s ball flighted over the top.

Then came the delicate chipped finish over keeper Harvey Davies which bounced gently inside the far post.

Stewart replied three minutes later and still had time to be sent off for a needless foul which brought his second yellow.

Colwill partnered Ed Turns in central defence, with Odel Offiah and James Furlong wide.

Steven Alzate and Jack Spong anchored midfield with Andrew Moran looking to support frontman Evan Ferguson.

Enciso started wide on the left and Sarmiento on the right.

Liverpool almost went ahead when Luke Chambers drilled a low ball across goal.

Albion settled, despite losing Sarmiento on 13 minutes.

His replacement Peupion provided the cross from which Colwill headed narrowly over.

Alzate was prominent in midfield and his sidekick Spong produced the pass of the half, sliding the ball through the advanced Liverpool defence and into the path of Peupion.

From a position to the right of goal, the Aussie drilled his shot wide of the far post.

Enciso shot well wide after Thomas McGill released Ferguson with a pinpoint long pass.

The Albion keeper held a couple of routine shots late in the half.

McGill was alert to push Dominic Corness’s free-kick over the bar in the second period.

The resulting corner should have seen Liverpool go ahead but Lee Jonas headed a great chance wide at the far post.

Jarell Quansah later headed against the bar from close range.

And McGill made a great point-blank block from Cain to keep his side on level terms.

Albion did not create much in response.

Their best work involved Peupion on the right and his low cutback after some great wing play somehow eluded Ferguson.

Then they twice got Enciso in behind.

He hooked his first effort wide after being well found by Alzate.

But clips of his finish which followed soon after will be savoured by his fans back home in Paraguay as well as Albion supporters.
