Danny Welbeck says Albion can cope with losing two key players – and become an even tighter unit.

The Seagulls striker has signed a new two-year deal in a summer which has seen Marc Cucurella and Yves Bissouma move on.

Welbeck said: “You don't really want to be losing those two players but it has happened so there’s not much we can do.

“We can’t be kicking up a fuss or sulking about it.

“It’s what we do as a group now that maybe brings us even closer together.

“We know that everyone here now are the people who are going to be fighting for each other on the pitch.

“We take that and we try and build on it, however difficult it may be because these are two top players.

“Really good guys as well so, personally, I’m very pleased for them to get that opportunity to go on to these big clubs and showcase their talent.

“They are going to be playing Champions League football, which is massive.

“Really happy for them personally but, as a club, being a Brighton player, I’m a bit peeved!”

Welbeck’s new deal will take his stint with the Seagulls to four seasons.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “Brighton as a club, from the top down to the bottom, is full of good people.

“They look after everybody involved at the club.

“The facilities are amazing, great manager to play underneath and it’s a good squad, very hungry players, people that are willing to improve every single day.

“To be a part of that process and trying to elevate the club to the next level, that’s something I’m looking forward to over these next two years.”
