Albion are slashing Withdean season ticket prices for under 21s in a bid to win back a lost generation of fans since they left the Goldstone 11 years ago and attract a new army of student supporters.

Under 21s can buy a season ticket in the south or east stands next season from £120, equivalent to a fiver a game. The price falls to £100 for under 16s and under tens can still get a season ticket for less than £1 a match.

Chairman Dick Knight said: "The board has set these new prices after careful consideration of the supporters' perspective in the drawn out Withdean-Falmer saga.

"Our fans under 21 are those who have suffered the most since we left the Goldstone. Many have grown up unable to watch the Albion regularly because of the limitations at Withdean but these new prices will give them the opportunity from next season and on into the new stadium."

Albion are also eager to exploit a high student population, particularly as figures indicate many of them still live in the area once their studies are over.

Meanwhile, an inflation-busting price freeze on adult season tickets means rates are as low as they were five seasons ago, from under £16 per game for adults and under £10 for OAPs, including free or subsidised travel.

Season ticket holders will also be given priority for seats at Falmer, with the longest-standing fans heading the queue.

Knight added: "Our season ticket holders are the lifeblood of this club and it is only with their continued support that we have been able to achieve what we have, both here at Withdean and in the battle for our new stadium.

"By the time season ticket renewal is upon us next year, the dream will be becoming reality, with construction work on the stadium scheduled to begin this November.

"That will create a huge groundswell of interest and our Withdean season ticket holders will come first for hard-hat site visits, seat selection days, opening events and stadium tours."
