A great fit for Brighton – and a superb manager.

That was how Tony Bloom described Graham Potter as he spoke about him to The Argus this summer.

Albion’s thinking is always to allow employees – playing or non-playing – to explore new career opportunities if offers come in.

They will have followed that policy with Potter but it by no means suggests they want him to go.

Bloom was asked about any plans to extend Potter’s contract when he spoke to The Argus in early July.

Albion’s chairman replied: “As I’ve said many times, Graham has been a great fit for Brighton. He is a superb manager.

"He has got us to our highest ever finish. I am extremely happy with Graham.

“I can’t speculate on what may happen in the future, the same with players.

“All I know is, at the moment, he has still got a long-term contract with Brighton, he is very happy here, he has got a great set of players.
