Albion have been told Ghana took a safety first approach with Tariq Lamptey.

The club will check on their full-back as he returns from his first Ghana get together.

He did not feature in Tuesday’s 1-0 friendly win over Nicaragua in Lorca, Spain.

But his national team boss suggested the Black Stars had erred on the side of caution with the decision, which should help club and player.

Ghana coach Otto Addo said Lamptey “felt something” during the warm-up at training ahead of the Nicaragua match.

He was not immediately ruled out of the game but, as it turned out, was not named in the matchday squad.

Addo later said Lamptey would “hopefully” be able to train on his return to Albion.

He added: “We just didn’t want to take that risk and it doesn’t look too bad.”

Lamptey won his first Black Stars cap as a sub against Brazil in Le Havre on Friday.

He now rejoins the Albion squad ahead of their Premier League game at Liverpool.

The former Chelsea flyer will be keen to impress Roberto De Zerbi as soon as possible.

He is arguably at his most effective as a wing-back, which is not a role the new Seagulls boss tends to use in his formations, Enock Mwepu appears to be the other Albion doubt as a result of a busy international window.

The midfielder fell ill while with Zambia in Mali.

Albion’s next home game is officially a sell-out which means the ticket exchange is now open.

Tottenham, including ex-Seagulls favourite Yves Bissouma, visit the Amex a week on Saturday (5.30pm).
