This is how Albion's individuals rated on a bewildering afternoon at Anfield.

ROBERT SANCHEZ 7.5/10

Clearly at fault on the third Liverpool goal but then saved a point with a stunning fingertip save from Alexander-Arnold’s free-kick. Also did well to deny Salah. He changed his game in terms of passing shorter and, one minor lapse apart, pulled it off.

JOEL VELTMAN 7/10

Was tested on the right of the three but produced two or three important interventions as he protected the far post.

LEWIS DUNK 7/10

Some really good moments of defending and poise on the ball but was outmanoeuvred by Firmino on the second home goal.

ADAM WEBSTER 7/10

Operating on the left of a three, he was unlucky with the own goal and given testing moments but generally showed good poise on the ball, notably in the build-up to the third Albion goal.

SOLLY MARCH 8/10

Brilliant in that opening passage of pay, identifying dangerous pockets of space and getting into them more eagerly than his pursuers. His perfect cross should have been buried by Welbeck before a deft cushioned lay-off set up Trossard.

MOISES CAICEDO 7/10

Has had more eye-cathcing matches than this did got through lots of good bits-and-pieces work in midfield.

ALEXIS MAC ALLISTER 8/10

Was sharp on to a second ball ahead of the opening goal and did lots of good work in midfield. Crucially, he is happy to get on the ball with opponents very tight to him and move it on quickly.

PERVIS ESTUPINAN 7/10

Employed further forward than might have been expected, he was undeterred by a harsh yellow card for taking time over a throw-in and was a good outlet on the left. Got all the way to the byline on occasion.

PASCAL GROSS 7/10

Not really his day but did his work without the ball and with it in that opening flurry. Ironically his best pass was ahead of the second Liverpool goal as the hosts then countered.

LEANDRO TROSSARD 10/10

Two cleanly struck goals, a third which rewarded him getting into a great position as play developed and an afternoon full of trickery and skills. Liverpool struggled to get near him and the hat-trick might have come in the first half-hour but for a save by Alisson.

DANNY WELBECK 8/10

Great work in leading the attack and helping others play – and he was involved in all three goals. But should have scored at least once.

SUBS

KAORU MITOMA 7/10

Always does something positive when he comes off the bench and this was no different as he ran at Alexander-Arnold.

ADAM LALLANA N/A

Went on to offer fresh attacking legs and ideas.

TARIQ LAMPTEY N/A

A late introduction for the shattered and bruised Trossard – but De Zerbi waited just long enough to send him on.
