THE Roberto De Zerbi era is off to a spectacular start with a six-goal thriller at Liverpool.

We asked these long-time Albion fans for thoughts on what they saw - and might follow.

What were your thoughts on Albion’s performance at Liverpool?

James Heasman: A great start for De Zerbi. Lots of positives, the players continued their good form and dominated Liverpool. I feel that rather than it being a “poor Liverpool or Man Utd team”, actually this is an exceptional Brighton team, who deserve credit for regularly outplaying ‘so called’ bigger teams.

Alan Brownings: A really good display and exciting football, it’s not often you see a hat-trick from the away team at Anfield! let’s hope De Zerbi ball continues in this vein and is here to stay.

Tim Ayling: Potterball on steroids. In the first half, especially, it was a non-stop wave of attacks and we looked like we could score at will. Defensively risky, but a joy to watch. The character they showed to come back from 3-2 down shows the type of player we have here now. What a time to be a Brighton fan!

Colin Beales: We came out fast and direct and by the time Liverpool had time to take stock they were 2 down and probably should have been more. Liverpool then turned it on and we seemed to tire under the intensity and slipping behind. Bringing on Mitoma gave us an edge again, something that we could build on and Leandro wasn’t going to miss his chance to smash his hattrick home to get us a well deserved draw.

Who was your pick of the Albion players?

James Heasman: Whilst I felt Alexis MacAllister and Solly March were very good, Leandro Trossard was exceptional. A great hat-trick. It really is important that he signs a new contract along with Mac Allister.

Alan Brownings: There can only be one after that stunning display and top finishing, the only question outstanding is how much Chelsea and Graham Potter are prepared to pay. We’re certain to see Chelsea filling their shopping trolley again in January.

Tim Ayling: Trossard obviously deservedly takes the plaudits, but it wasn’t just the goals. His all-round game was devastating. Mac Allister showed how important he is for us too. A special shout out to Mitoma who changed the game for us when he came on.

Colin Beales: Simplest pick of the season so far, Trossard.

Having now seen the first game, what are you expecting from the De Zerbi era?

James Heasman: If anyone felt that Potter playing out from the back was a little risky at times, wait until you see De Zerbi’s team. Some of the situations were very tight, but the players clearly believe in one another and the majority of the time played the right option, which led to attacks. His substitutions were also very good and in the case of Mitoma paid dividends. Get ready for an exciting ride!

Alan Brownings: Exciting football, a little more energy, flamboyance and a lot more goals!

Tim Ayling: Goals, goals and goals. He feels like a natural evolution from Potter. If we continue to play like this, Europe is realistic. I just can’t wait for the Tottenham match now.

Colin Beales: Expecting is a big word. I expect him to try his hardest and give his best for the club, hope however is a different thing. I hope he can build on the groundwork done by Tony Bloom to set the club up for success, to build on the work done by Potter and to try make Tony’s target of being an established top-ten team a reality. Oh, and some European football would be nice if that’s not too much to ask.
