Ed Turns believes he can do a job for Roberto De Zerbi after being called into a matchday 20.

The centre-back from Mid Sussex was on the bench as Albion played Tottenham on Saturday.

The call capped a great couple of weeks which saw him score for the under-21s, also against Tottenham, and captain Wales under-21s.

Turns, a solid defender who is comfortable on the ball, has continued to train with the senior Albion squad this week.

He told the club website: “We’ve been working on patterns and the way he wants us to work in and out of possession.

“There’s lots of running, but there’s nothing wrong with that.

“I like the way he sets up, it suits the way I play.

“It’s positive for me that he’s come in and introduced that style because it’s my game too.

“At Brighton we’re encouraged to be brave on the ball in the academy, to deal with being put under pressure.

“I am ready to be the centre-half he wants me to be.”

Turns was pulled out of an under-21s game at Manchester United on Saturday.

Fellow defender Jan Paul van Hecke was not involved in the 20 against Tottenham, which appears to have been a selection choice.

De Zerbi has made it clear he is happy to give young players an opportunity.

Albion’s home game with Chelsea on October 29 is officially a sell-out and the ticket exchange is now open.
