October at The Enclosed Ground.

Frozen off the pitch as the eleven players in red were on it, Whitehawk’s unbeaten streak stretches deeper into the season but only just as Burgess Hill Town arrived with intent and influence to leave with a well-earned share of the spoils.

On Saturday afternoon the Hawks set their Sat Navs east, far along the coast to the town of Folkestone for an FA Trophy clash. League above, but show it did not as a last minute Marcus Marku leveller sent the tie to a penalty shootout.

Shaun Saunders’ side would bow out in the cruellest way possible, showing immense desire and spirit to unsettle the rocked hosts.

Defeated on the day but not in the hearts, Tuesday evening came around with Whitehawk still yet to taste defeat in the league, and yet to lose after 90 minutes in all competitions.

A fine feat, but as the band of frozen Ultras stiffly shimmied away from home comforts all that buzz and talk failed to reflect on the field.

For The Hillians produced a performance of real merit: dominant in midfield as the Hawks struggled for an outlet, for a route to goal.

Javaun Splatt - last season’s top scorer who moved to Worthing - puzzled the crowd with a surprise return who soon discovered the forward remains dual-signed at the club.

He would glance a header millimetres wide of the post in Whitehawk’s best moment of the game.

At the night’s end a draw will feel a fair reflection.

Speaking after the game Saunders discussed how his sides performance: “They’ve been fantastic - I don’t want to be too negative, it’s just one of those nights where we couldn’t find the finish to get the points.

“We had an off night, without a doubt.”
