Andrew Whing believes Micky Adams could be Albion's ticket to promotion again.

The former Coventry right-back has been reunited with Adams now that he is back in charge of the Seagulls.

Adams guided Albion to the old Third Division title in his first spell at the club and Whing reckons good times beckon again after finishing seventh in League One under Dean Wilkins.

He said: "There is already a very good side which Dean Wilkins has left behind.

"We had respectable draws this season against Leeds, Forest and Swansea and could have beaten them. With the improvements Micky Adams brings I am sure we will be giving it a go and I am quite positive about us going up."

Adams launched his squad rebuilding last week by signing Whing's former Coventry team-mate and fellow defender Colin Hawkins.

Whing still expects to be flying into tackles under Adams but he will be trying to cut out back-chat to referees to improve his disciplinary record.

The flame-haired Brummie has collected 21 yellow cards in the past two seasons with Albion and Coventry, some of them when Adams was boss of the Sky Blues.

Whing admitted: "I don't know if my record will improve. He (Adams) will want me to get stuck in even more.

"I think I will have to watch more what comes out of my mouth rather than my feet, keeping a bit quieter with referees. If I get a bad decision I've got to bite my tongue, which is easier said than done."

Will Albion be promotion contenders under Adams?
