Alexis Mac Allister is giving his Argentina boss food for thought ahead of their second World Cup fixture.

The Albion midfielder was left out of the opening game, in which his side lost 2-1 to Saudi Arabia.

A change in the engine room is among the items believed to be top of Lionel Scaloni’s agenda ahead of Saturday’s match versus Mexico.

The leading Argentinean sports newspaper and website Ole believe Scaloni will need more midfield organisation and aggression in the fight for possession.

They cite Mac Allister and Enzo Fernandez as leading candidates to come into the XI - and appear to have the latter as favourite to offer Leandro Paredes midfield support.

TyC Sports predict Fernandez will start but their assessment adds: “Mac Allister is also fighting for this place.”

Scaloni is also expected to restore Lisandro Martinez to the centre of defence and make a change at full-back.
