Pervis Estupinan has revealed he is only thinking of another win as he makes a big impression at the World Cup.

The Albion left wing-back has enjoyed an eye-catching tournament so far in Qatar as Ecuador stand on four points from their opening two games.

He was arguably unfortunate to be denied what would have been the first goal by an Albion player at a World Cup.

But the 1-1 draw with Holland leaves Estupinan and Seagulls colleagues Moises Caicedo and Jeremy Sarmiento still in need of a result against Costa Rica to ensure progression.

Reminded a point will be enough, Estupinan told reporters who are with the Ecuador squad: “Yes, you can see it like that – mathematically, yes.

"But our mentality is we want to gain points, we want to win.

“That is important, the team’s ambition and we will keep preparing for the next match.”

Estupinan’s two performances in Qatar are reported in his homeland to have attracted the eyes of Juventus.

They have got fans in Ecuador debating whether he is the nation’s best ever left-back.

But his work might have been crowned by a goal.

Estupinan thought he had scored against Holland when turned the ball home but offside was given against Jackson Porozo after a check.

He said: “You always want to try to score but there are other things which don’t depend on us, like VAR.

“They disallowed it but the important thing is we got a result.”
