Roberto De Zerbi was last night waiting for news on two players who left Albion's Dubai friendly early.

Danny Welbeck and Adam Webster saw their contribution in a 2-2 draw with Aston Villa cut short.

De Zerbi hopes news on the striker and defender does not tarnish what he saw as a positive outing and productive week.

Deniz Undav produced two expert finishes for the Seagulls, who also used several youngsters.

Welbeck went down and needed attention midway through the first half.

Webster appeared to feel some discomfort a few minutes later.

He walked the full width of the pitch, possibly with a slight limp, as he left the action.

Head coach De Zerbi said: “Only this is the bad news. In the next days we will look what is the problem.”

Danny Ings put Villa ahead after a mix-up at the back.

Undav’s first goal was a right-foot finish across the keeper after Andrew Moran helped work room for him to advance towards the penalty area. He added a first-time left-finish from Pascal Gross’s pass.

Villa levelled late on when a low cross was turned in by a combination of Ings and Lewis Dunk.

De Zerbi said: “We played well, a good game but this week we worked in the right direction.

“It was important work and now we have to prepare the next game with Charlton.

“It was a good week. I think we have improved a lot and this is important for the season.

“To learn better what is my idea because in the normal period we have no time to work like this moment.

“Next week will arrive three or four players and after we will wait for Robert Sanchez, Trossard and Mac Allister, when he will finish the World Cup.

“But we have to work in the same way, with the same passion, with the same attitude.”
