Crawley are selling one of their star players to a relegation rival.

Tom Nichols will join Gillingham for an undisclosed fee when the January window opens.

Nichols leads Reds in assists so far this term with six and has also scored two goals.

He has scored 29 goals for the club in total in 109 games and was player of the season in 2020-21.

News of his departure is unlikely to go down well with Reds fans concerned after back-to-back home defeats.

They are six points clear of the League Two drop zone.

Gillingham are bottom of the table but hopeful of a revival after a recent take-over by a Florida-based property magnate.

Reds go to Stevenage on Friday.
